Course description

Advanced Life Support Level 2 (ALS 2) focuses on developing advanced skills, knowledge and confidence in managing and leading medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest.

ALS 2 is a Resuscitation Australia (RA) accredited course designed for health professionals who work in critical care areas and regularly manage or lead medical emergencies.

What you will learn

  • Recognise, assess and manage the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach
  • Treat cardiac and respiratory arrest, including manual defibrillation
  • Manage life-threatening arrhythmias
  • Prepare for and plan post-resuscitation care
  • Care for the deteriorating patient in special circumstances such as asthma, anaphylaxis and pregnancy
  • Lead a team, work as a team member, and use structured communication skills including effective handover

  • Doctors (some interns, RMOs to specialists)
  • Nurses (ideally with two years post-qualification experience)
  • Professional paramedics

How you will learn

A blend of flexible online eLearning completed before the course, followed by a full hands-on practical training day. eLearning access is provided 30 days before your course date.

Assessment

Continuous knowledge checks are embedded throughout the eLearning, and practical skills are assessed throughout the face-to-face training day. You must meet the required standard in both theory and practical to be certified.

Prerequisites

AHPRA Registration is desirable although there are no formal pre-requisites for this course.

Please note a minimum of six candidates is required for this course. All ALS training is conducted in accordance with ANZCOR Guidelines and meets NSQHS Standards.
